Prioritising connectivity and user experience: Bafang's new HMI collection

E-bikes often feature a Human-Machine Interface (HMI), a dashboard that delivers real-time data, navigation, and safety alerts to enhance the rider's experience. Recently, e-bike drive system manufacturer Bafang has given their HMI collection an impressive makeover.

Bafang has recently launched a new and improved version of its HMI display systems to provide users with a more impressive riding experience. The company has combined industry expertise with the latest trends in UI and UX design to usher in a new era of aids that integrate seamlessly within the e-bike system. The second upgrade to the HMI series, which includes the DP C010, DP C030, and DP C080, was launched with the aim of enhancing overall ride performance.

Compatible across devices

The new HMI systems offer enhanced connectivity by supporting ANT+ wireless connections, enabling cyclists to link devices such as cycle computers and smartwatches from major brands. Users can also connect to the Bafang Go+ App via Bluetooth, allowing them to customize settings, use the remote control option, and access real-time tracking, among other features.

New features

The HMI product portfolio includes three types of display control systems designed for various terrains and applications. The DP C010, launched in 2023, was the first in the series to feature a large 4.0-inch high-resolution, IPX6 water-resistant TFT screen, along with multi-element UI interactive options and a navigation map. Notably, it won the 'Excellent Product Design' award at the 2024 German Design Awards. It also includes automatic light control and easy connectivity.

The DP C030 and DP C080, introduced in 2024, feature a 1.9-inch high-resolution, water-resistant TFT screen. The DP C030 stands out with a depth of only 16mm, allowing it to be seamlessly embedded into the top bar of an e-bike’s frame, making it ideal for city and gravel e-bikes. Additionally, it comes with a vibrant backlight.

Touch and visuals

Each display system also benefits from an anti-fingerprint and hydrophobic coating, ensuring the screen remains water-resistant and maintains high definition even in rainy conditions, allowing for easy readability. Gary Xu, head of research and development, explains: “It offers users a fresh visual experience with a stylish design that can be seamlessly mounted on the e-bike’s handlebars or integrated within the frame itself, as seen with the DP C030.”

Additionally, the DP C030 features liquid silicone rubber buttons that provide a soft touch while enhancing durability and long-term protection. The DP C080, by contrast, is equipped with raised buttons to prevent accidental presses during a ride.

Communication between e-bike and user

The recent upgrade to Bafang's HMI system focuses on improving the interaction between the user and the e-bike. The system’s intuitive interface design aims to make this communication straightforward, allowing users to quickly understand and execute commands. With multiple UI styles available across different HMI models, riders have the option to customize their experience.
