The PW-LINK system focuses on enhancing collaboration between Yamaha and various OEM manufacturers. This new platform is based on the CAN-Open communication protocol, connecting solutions between Yamaha and its partners. Through standardized exchange of Electronic Data Sheets, bicycle manufacturers can proactively participate in the system integration of e-bikes.
A leading supplier of e-bike kits
In recent years, Yamaha has developed into a major supplier of e-bike kits in the European market. The company's light, compact, and powerful drive units from the PWs series are known for their smooth acceleration and high reliability. Yamaha’s displays and batteries offer OEM manufacturers a wide range of options for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and city bikes.
Enhanced functionality and reduced lead times
The new PW-LINK system allows each partner to play a more proactive role from the initial concept to the final production model. As a fully integrated partner, Yamaha collaborates with each individual OEM brand, enabling them to deliver custom-made solutions. These solutions can transform the development process of new models, improve efficiency, and reduce the lead time from prototype to production.
How PW-LINK works
During the joint development of future e-bikes with the PW-LINK system, Yamaha retains control over the specifications of crucial aspects such as the performance and reliability of the Power Assist System. The light and compact drive units from Yamaha’s PW series, known for their high torque, direct response, and intuitive riding experience, offer industry partners a wide range of solutions for every e-bike segment.
OEM manufacturers have the option to use original Yamaha batteries or approved products from selected partners, while Yamaha’s display units complete the package.
Incorporating the latest e-bike technology
A key feature of the PW-LINK system is that it allows industry partners to integrate the most advanced Yamaha technology, such as dual drive, electronic power steering, and various safety and security features.
This standardized development environment also enables European e-bike manufacturers to work with their own selected partners to develop exclusive solutions. This opens up new possibilities in areas such as IoT, ABS, GPS, electronic/automatic transmission, and smart innovations like locks and lighting.
