HELSINKI, Finland - In 2016 sporting goods conglomerate Amer Sports's cycling sales reached a total of € 150.2 million. Compared to 2015 this accounts for an 8% increase. This turnover growth is however only caused by the takeover of Enve Composites LLC.

Shimano Vigorously Investing in Disappointing 2016

OSAKA, Japan - Shimano booked a 17.4% drop in net sales made with bike products in 2016 compared to 2015. This is in the company's 2016 financial report which was published last Tuesday. Despite the drop in sales Shimano made 'vigorous investments' in its manufacturing capabilities in Japan as well as overseas.

Kross Restarts E-Bike Production at Multicycle

ULFT, the Netherlands - Kross S.A. is acting fast after its last week's announcement on the takeover of bankrupted Dutch Multicycle. The Polish bike maker has appointed a Managing Director who is restarting in particular the e-bike production at the Dutch bike maker with 12 of the former 65 employees.

Giant Remains Cautious About E-Bike Future

TAICHUNG, Taiwan - Giant had a difficult 2016 with a cumulative revenue decline of 5.57% to USD 1.87 billion (€ 1.74bn) from the previous year. Although sales from e-bikes, mainly in Europe, soared 50% year-on-year in 2016 Taiwan's biggest manufacturer remains cautious about future revenue in this product category.

Family Puello Named as Possible New MIFA Owner

SANGERHAUSEN, Germany - The family Puello is named in the German media as the possible new owners of the troubled bicycle factory MIFA. Media reports state that "the Puello family and Deutsche Post are currently discussing the MIFA take-over with administrator Lucas Flöther." Officially Susanne Puello and her husband Felix (former Winora Group managers) are not involved in the take-over talks.

Dorel's Q1 Results: Gains Overall but Bike Business Sees 1% Decrease...

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC -- Dorel Industries released their first quarter results for 2017, with adjusted net income for the quarter up 15.4%. However, historically low inventory levels, North America's long winter, and the fact that the Easter holiday sales occurred in April (second quarter 2017) combined to leave the company's Cycling Sports Group (CSG) segment with an organic revenue decline of 9.9%.

Optima Cycles Acquires Dutch ID Brand from Amazing Wheels

BEVERWIJK, the Netherlands - Optima Cycles based in Beverwijk (the Netherlands) has taken over the Dutch ID brand from Flyer e-bike importer Amazing Wheels. The sale of Optima Cycles follows after Amazing Wheels was acquired by Biketec, the producer of Flyer e-bikes.

TI Cycles Open 4th Bicycle Factory in India

RAIPURA, India - TI Cycles of India inaugurated its fourth green field facility in district Rajpura in the North Indian state of Punjab. The state-of-the-art plant has the capacity to produce 3 million units annually and is the largest among the four bike production units of TI Cycles.

UK's Tandem Brands Claud Butler and Dawes Merge

BIRMINGHAM, UK - Two of the UK's oldest bike names, Claud Butler and Dawes, are to merge under the name Tandem Group Cycles, was announced recently. This news comes only one month after it was made public that parent company Tandem Group plc had made staff redundant, a company statement saying the lay-offs were due to, "a challenging environment....exacerbated by the weakness in sterling following the outcome of the Brexit."

Giant Sees Sales Drop in 2016

TAICHUNG, Taiwan - Giant Manufacturing Company Ltd saw its total revenues drop by 6.5% in the first nine months of 2016. Total turnover amounted TWD 44.23 billion (€ 1,3bn). The company's operating income (EBIT) was down big; with 19.9% to TWD 2.4 billion (€ 70.2 mn) compared to the 3 quarters of 2015.
