Blog: What we can learn from the disastrous Philips recall

"The health care turmoil in the US is only temporary," Philips' CEO said in an interview in 2017. Today, Philips itself seems to be in its worst turmoil ever. The company is recalling millions of medical devices due to the breakdown of foam (PE-PUR) used in the Philips Respironics ventilators and other medical devices, causing serious potential health risks.

In the music world, a contract for live concerts typically has an appendix, also known as a 'rider', that includes all kinds of very detailed technical and practical rules and demands of a band. The front rack installed on some Cannondale Treadwell bicycles proved not to be safe. Cannondale has received a few reports of issues with the bolts that attach the front rack installed on the Treadwell EQ (regular bicycle) and the Treadwell Neo EQ (e-bike) that caused the rack to become detached from the bicycle and abruptly stop the front wheel, creating a fall and injury hazard.

SRAM Recalls 3-Speed IGH with coaster brake in US and Canada

CHICAGO, USA - Late last month SRAM has started a recall in the United States and Canada of its i-Motion 3 internal gear hubs with coaster brakes. The problem that triggered the recall is with the brakes in the gear hubs which can fail, posing crash and injury hazards to the rider. SRAM has received five reports of brake failure, resulting in one minor injury to a rider.

MORGAN HILL, USA - Specialized Bicycle Components announced a voluntary recall of specific 'Roubaix', 'Ruby', 'Diverge' and 'Sirrus' road models. They are specified with the brand's own innovative front damping system 'Future Shock'. While Future Shock itself isn't the problem it's the clamping collar around the top of the steerer tube.

On this recall the bike maker states, "The carbon steerer of the forks is not able to withstand the stresses and strains it will be exposed to. Under intensive use, the steerer underneath the clamp of the stem and spacers can develop fractures which can lead to a complete collapse of the fork."
