Ananda: e-drive systems tailored to the specific needs of its customers

As high-tech e-bike systems become more popular, keeping up with demand often requires streamlined production. Whether it's for an e-bike, e-motor, e-scooter, or e-motorcycle, there is one company that can build entire e-drive systems tailored to the specific needs of its customers: Ananda.

Founded in 2011, Ananda has become one of the largest e-drive system manufacturers in the bicycle components industry, delivering high-quality products at affordable prices. With over 10 years of experience in e-drive systems, Ananda's innovative approach is supported by a team of more than 100 R&D experts with over 100 patents under their belt. The company offers a comprehensive range of products and systems, including motors, controllers, displays, and batteries integrated within these solutions.

Expansive production capabilities

Ananda has the capacity to address several aspects of e-bike technology, including transmission features such as automatic shifting, connectivity, and keyless access for battery locks. This allows them to cater to third-party customers looking to build custom e-bike systems.

Thomas Lecoq, marketing manager Europe at Ananda, explains: "We are one of the few companies capable of manufacturing direct drive hub motors, gear drive hub motors, mid-motors, controllers, sensors, and HMIs to ensure comprehensive quality e-drive systems. We are also one of the few e-bike system companies in China that has its own Surface Mount Technology (SMT) line for Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA). In fact, we really take pride in our in-house production capabilities."

Expanding their global reach

Whilst their headquarters remain in Shanghai, China, with three additional factories across the country, the company has recently expanded its production capacity to Hungary and Vietnam. These new locations provide strategic advantages; the Hungarian plant, currently a sales service centre for the EU market, will evolve into a production base to ensure rapid market agility, regulatory compliance, and customized solutions tailored to European customers' needs, whilst the Vietnamese facility benefits from favourable compliance and certifications when trading with the EU and US.

Ensuring standards

With millions of units being produced annually, Ananda follows stringent testing and quality control measures, including Final Quality Control (FQC) and Outgoing Quality Control (OQC). They also collaborate with TÚV (Technischer Überwachungsverein), which translates to 'The Technical Inspection Association'. Additionally, Ananda works closely with engineers on frame development and has several bikes available for real-world testing, which they loan out in exchange for valuable feedback.

Latest product line

The company has an impressive portfolio of motors designed to cover a wide range of applications. Their e-City mid-drive motor, the M5000, is lightweight and almost silent, providing a smoother ride. The e-gravel and e-road hub motor, the R820, features a 12mm through axle so that the back wheel can be removed easily with a small Allen key. Another notable product is the R900, which offers a three-gear auto-shift system. They have also launched the M4000, one of their latest e-bike motors for e-trekking, which is claimed to be incredibly smooth, compact, and easy for any OEM customer to integrate into their chosen bike frame.

Innovative tools for consumers

Ananda offers two valuable tools that complement their motors; Ananda Ride which enables end users to connect their bike to their phone via Bluetooth, offering functions like navigation, activity logging, and precise motor tuning, and Ananda Link, designed specifically for retailers and OEMs, which provides easy access to software and firmware to check motor performance, diagnose issues, and perform updates.

Local customer support

Their dedication to customer satisfaction is reflected in its local service initiatives. With an office in the Netherlands and service stations in France, Italy, Japan, and the US—with Germany, Sweden, Poland and the UK soon to follow—They are committed to building strong business partnerships and maintaining close relationships with its end users.

Moreover, their new Direct to Retailer call center, specifically dedicated to dealers, will allow retailers to contact Ananda directly for technical inquiries, ensuring a quick response.

Central Europe as an e-bike production hub

For reshoring production and improving market flexibility by manufacturing in Europe instead of Asia, the central European countries have always played a key role. Although no country has taken a leading role, like Portugal, that does not mean that the region plays a secondary role within the industry. Several new facilities were started in recent years and existing ones upgraded their output quality.
