Portugal bicycle exports exceed 3 million unit barrier

AGUEDA, Portugal – 2022 proved to be a very successful year for the Portuguese bicycle and e-bike industry. The total export value increased by no less than 37% from €594 million in 2021 to more than €800 million in 2022. It makes Portugal the largest bike producer in Europe.

Tough times expected in Sweden this year

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - The growing popularity of e-bikes in Sweden has resulted in a market share increase from 19.5% in 2020/2021 to 21.7% over the last season which runs from September to August. The increasing sales figures of e-bikes are the real shining star in Sweden, while other categories lag behind.

Taiwan bicycle export value hiked by 11% in 2022

E-bike sales up 2% in the Netherlands as market confronts challenges

AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – “The future of cycling is bright,” said Huub Lamers, cycling section chairman of the RAI industry association announcing the 2022 e-bike and bicycle sales in the Netherlands. The average price per unit increased last year, but not all figures show a positive trend.

UK bike sales drop to ‘lowest level in 20 years’

LONDON, England – Sales data collected from UK e-bike and bicycle retailers show that the market has taken a huge drop in 2022. With e-bike sales plateauing and regular bike sales dropping 22%, the country’s Bicycle Association is calling for action as the market hits a 20-year low.

Taiwan’s e-bike shipment exceeds 1 million units for the first time

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Notwithstanding all the reports about packed warehouses in Taiwan and high inventory levels at distributors and dealers worldwide, the shipments of e-bikes from Taiwan to global markets were at a very high level throughout 2022. Component shortages appeared to be less problematic last year than in 2021, so the assembly could run at full capacity.

Czech e-bike market facing overstock pressure

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – As in other countries, some manufacturers in the Czech Republic are facing a decline in demand for e-bikes and bicycles. Although the production volumes of some brands exceeded the 2021 amount, this is not representative of the sales. Many of these (e)-bikes are currently stocked up in warehouses.

E-bikes now account for 10% of global bicycle sales

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Global bicycle sales in 2021 reached 96 million units, while the booming pedal-assisted e-bike sales are estimated at 9.7 million units. This was reported by the World Bicycle Industry Association (WBIA) in their first-ever WBIA Global Market Report.
