"Forecasting is a disaster"; the Global Bicycle Purchasing Index proves its relevancy

ZEIST, the Netherlands - A Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) is generally regarded as the headline indicator of purchasing and supply executives across industries. This essential information, known as the Global Bicycle Purchasing Index, was introduced in the bicycle and e-bike industry last June. Accell Group CEO Jonas Nilssen recently made clear how relevant this kind of information is, stating, "Forecasting is a disaster in this industry."

Global Bicycle Purchasing Index launched by Bike Europe in partnership with Eurobike

Germany, the Netherlands - Key economic and sourcing data has turned out to be an essential tool in steering the industry in today's challenging and volatile markets. The bicycle industry currently lacks the information needed to identify future market trends and a sourcing benchmark. Eurobike and Bike Europe will close this gap together in cooperation with the market research institute IFH Cologne in Germany.

2024: A year of false hope in the bicycle industry

ZEIST, The Netherlands - In late 2023, after a difficult year, industry insiders were looking hopefully towards the new year. However, predictions of inventory level recovery and stability in the market were pushed back at every contact moment during 2024; from Taipei Cycle at the beginning of the year, to Taichung Bike Week at the end. This 'hope' was abandoned in the second half of the year as insolvencies and closures began to dominate the headlines. As hopes now push forward to those that have 'survived to 2025', here, a perhaps unwelcome look back at 2024.
