Supreme Dutch launches durable airless tyre for urban mobility

Supreme Dutch, a bicycle tyre innovator based in the Netherlands, has unveiled its next generation airless tyre specifically designed for bicycles. The new patented product is aimed at transforming the bike-sharing, food delivery, and cargo bike transportation sectors, where reliability, durability, and minimal maintenance are critical. With over a decade of research and development, the company is known for its focus on airless solutions for urban (E-) mobility. The company collaborated with tyre brand Schwalbe - Ralf Bohle for nearly five years before branching out independently to expand its reach globally.

The improved airless bicycle tyre from Supreme Dutch eliminates the need for air pressure and comes equipped with a robust micro-cell structure that maintains ride reliability and shock absorption. Built from durable, recyclable materials, the tyre can handle extreme road conditions without the threat of punctures. making it ideal for heavy-duty urban use and reducing the hassle of maintenance for fleet operators.

Keypoints

  • Puncture-proof design: The airless tyre structure with its thousands of mini air cushions results in no more flats, which translates to less downtime and lower repair costs.
  • Comfortable ride: The airless tyre feels and rides similarly to traditional pneumatic tyres with 3.5 BAR (+/- 51 PSI). The extreme expanded material is able to smooth out the ride.
  • Longer lifespan: The airless tube can reach a lifespan of +/- 20.000 km. The combination with  a regular outer tyre results in a highly wear resistant combination with excellent grip. On top of that, the outer tyre has a 30% longer lifespan due to the constant ‘pressure’.
  • Eco-friendly materials: Supreme Dutch uses sustainable and recyclable materials, aligning with the growing demand for environmentally responsible products in urban mobility.

A perfect fit for urban mobility

The airless tyre is engineered to meet the unique demands of bike-sharing companies, delivery services, and cargo bike operators. “The tyre’s structure and materials have been rigorously tested to handle frequent use on rough city streets, ensuring a smooth ride and reliable performance,” says co-founder Kevin Kesteloo. “In addition, the tyre’s durability makes it an optimal choice for the high-frequency use of shared bikes and delivery bikes, where downtime impacts service quality and profitability.”

“With the rise of urban biking solutions, we’ve identified an urgent need for low-maintenance, reliable tyres in the bike-sharing, food delivery, and cargo bike markets,” Neil van den Haak, the other co-founder, continues. “Our airless tyres solve the long-standing issues of punctures and high maintenance, enabling fleet operators and independent riders to focus on their work without worrying about tyre performance.”

Compatibility and versatility

A standout feature of Supreme Dutch's innovation is its compatibility with a wide range of outer tyre brands, making the airless inner tube globally available. Designed to fit wheel sizes from 20 to 28 inches and ETRTO width sizes of 40 to 55 mm (with 60-65 mm options coming soon), this versatility ensures that fleet operators worldwide can seamlessly adopt the airless technology without significant adjustments to their existing systems.

Support for sustainable urban transport

The launch of the airless bicycle tyre aligns with a broader shift toward sustainable urban transport solutions. Kesteloo: “By reducing the need for frequent replacements and using recyclable materials, we address not only the efficiency needs of urban bike operators but also the environmental impact of traditional tyres. For cities looking to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce vehicle congestion, airless tyres offer a practical and sustainable option.”

Tools for easy installation

Supreme Dutch also provides specially designed tools and machines to simplify the tyre installation. These tools are available through flexible rental agreements or purchase options, lowering the barrier to entry for businesses looking to adopt this cutting-edge technology.

Looking ahead

The innovative tyre design is already being used by a diverse range of sharing- and delivery bike parties across Europe and beyond. The company plans to increase their sales by 50% in the European and South America market by early next year, followed by expansion into North America, where urban cycling solutions are rapidly growing.
