Litemove's e-bike lights are turning green

Litemove's e-bike lights are turning green
"We have shifted to toxic-free materials and environmentally friendly production processes."

Litemove, the manufacturer of innovative high-tech bicycle lights, is going green with its next-generation products.

Established in 2019, the company uses its expertise in optics, electronics, and mechanical engineering to design award-winning bicycle headlights. Litemove received the Taipei Cycle Gold d&i Awards in 2020 and 2021, as well as the Design and Innovation Award in 2022 and the German design award for the categoryexcellent product in 2023.

Litemove prioritises green manufacturing

Litemove has prioritised green manufacturing from the beginning. "Green products come down to two things: reducing waste and maximising resource efficiency," says Litemove's General Manager Ning Hsin, Wei. "In pursuit of that we have shifted to toxic-free materials and environmentally friendly production processes."

Litemove's power cables and switch control cables will be coated with TPU instead of PVC from this year. TPU does not only lack PVC's toxicity, it is highly flexible and abrasion resistant, and 100% recyclable.

Another important part of the sustainability equation is packaging. Litemove has used eco-friendly plastic-free packaging for its products from the beginning.

Product design

Improving product design is always aimed at improving the user experience and technical quality, while reducing waste in production is also a high priority for the company. To reduce the amount of material that cannot be recycled post-production, Litemove will produce high beam switches that have water resistant connectors. Switching to these products increases the longevity of the switches and is also easier to maintain. Both factors ultimately extend the life of the switch, as it is easier to repair than to dispose of. "That is a win for the environment, plus it reduces costs for the company", says Wei.

Circular Economy Action Plan

Wei mentions the Circular Economy Action Plan, part of the European Union's Green Deal, which aims to promote a circular economy with longer product lifespans, and easier repairs and recycling. She says that "making sustainable products is in our DNA. Our lights are not just high performance and easy to repair, we also ensure a long lifespan by conducting reliability tests."
