Kellys one of the first to launch Belgium-made carbon frames

VELKE ORVIŠTĚ, Slovakia - "After more than 20 years, we are going to get rid of the high fragility of standard resin carbon composites, by introducing a new generation material," said Kellys Bicycles CEO Michal Divinec at the presentation of the company's MY 2021 range. The Slovakian company partnered with Belgium frame manufacturer Rein4ced for the introduction of their new e-bike frames for the Theos F series.

Tom Boonen ambassador for new Belgian shifting system

TURNHOUT, Belgium - The Belgium start-up Classified Cycling presented an all new smart shifting technology which will make conventional front derailleurs a thing of the past. The company is strongly embedded in the Belgium cycling culture with former road racer Tom Boonen as ambassador as a new shareholder and Ridley as launching partner.

Belgium investor Colruyt puts €10 million in bicycle retail chain

GENT, Belgium - The take-over by supermarket owner Colruyt in 2019 saved the future of the Belgium bicycle retail chain Fiets!. A year earlier Fiets! already filed for chapter 11 and that was not without reason. According to a publication in Belgium newspaper De Tijd, Colruyt had to invest another €10 million in Fiets! to make it future proof.

Big names lead the way in e-bike investments

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Investments are continuing from other sectors looking for a foothold in the booming bike business. Most recently, Italian mobility giant, the Agnelli family has invested in a Belgian e-bike start-up and associates from Mini Cooper and Adidas have partnered in a London-based bicycle subscription program.

No LEV legislation changes imminent as new study is launched

BRUSSELS, Belgium - "The European Commission cannot continue to ignore a key barrier to growth for the LEV market," says trade association, LEVA-EU, following the decision to carry out another study into LEVs. The association is calling for the commission to "match green transport rhetoric with action on LEVs" in regards to legislation which limits the sector.

CIE starts expert group on Market Impact and Intelligence

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The new expert group of Cycling Industries Europe (CIE) has the ambition to become a unique think tank for cycling, attracting top strategic leaders and analysts from all sectors of cycling. The group will gather evidence and produce intelligence that will allow accurate market forecasting, stronger promotion of the industry, and better information for the industry as well as NGOs, policymakers and investors.

Saddled e-scooter legislation needs more clarification

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The number of EU member states that allows an e-scooter on the roads is on the rise. With that, the availability of e-scooters with a saddle is also growing. "However, those vehicles are ticking time bombs since they are completely illegal if non type-approved," stated LEVA-EU this week, who is now calling on the European Commission to fill the legislative gaps.

E-Bikes Take Lead in Belgian Market

KORTRIJK, Belgium - The Belgian people embraced e-bikes like in no other European market. A recent market study by 'Velofollies', the country's biggest bicycle show, confirmed results of previous surveys which showed that the e-bike is currently the largest bicycle category in Belgium with a market share (in units) of 45%.

Ladies Models and E-bikes Grow Belgian Market

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Increasing sales of ladies bicycles and e-bikes result in a market growth of 3.2% in 2015 in Belgium. A total of 450.519 bicycles were sold last year according to the third annual market survey by the Velofollies cycle show.
