Foam recycling
One of the largest sources of manufacturing waste with saddle production has been the foam. In the past, the scrap foam pieces were transported to special waste facilities. Velo has developed a process to minimise foam waste by implementing a recycling method all done in-house to re-purpose foam pieces into saddle production.
As we move forward, Velo is committed to further establishing supply partners that share the same vision for a better a planet and increase our catalogue to include more GRS 4.0 certified materials.
Recycled plastic material
By utilising recycled materials into their grips, Velo has minimised plastic waste by collecting scrap plastic pieces from the grip core manufacturing and recycled to use in new injection-mold grip core production. This process has eliminated a lot of waste going to landfills and efficiently control materials costs with no loss in quality of the final product.
In addition to environmentally sustainable manufacturing processes, we continue to develop products that make cycling safe and enjoyable for everyone. Some of the recent innovative products include anti-bacterial grips, signal light grips and hand warming grips.
Anti-bacterial products
The current pandemic has made all of us hyper-conscious about personal hygiene. Velo has spent significant time researching various anti-bacterial options and materials to apply to our products. This new feature can be found on select saddles, bar tapes and grips. Lab tests have shown to reduce the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli bacteria on the surface of our products.
Signal light grips
Safety and rider visibility on the road are the priority at Velo. The Signal Light Grips feature end mounted yellow LED turn indicators with touch of a single button. The blinking light will flash for fifteen seconds on desired turn direction. The lights are integrated into an ergonomic grip for maximum comfort.
Hand warming grips
Rider comfort should be at all contact points including the hands. Velo offers a diverse line of grips to provide the best experience for every rider. The Hand Warming grips provide additional comfort with a built-in heating structure in the core of the grips. Simple installation and rechargeable batteries make it a welcome upgrade for those chilly days on the bike.
