E-bike theft solution thesis turned into successful market introduction
PentaLock has a vision to eradicate bicycle thefts and create a secure environment for cyclists.

The Tech company PentaLock started as a master thesis at university and has developed into a successful business, destroying bike theft for good. They have just raised €1.6M in pre-seed funding and are now more than ready to supply bicycle locks to bicycle manufacturers across Europe, starting with the Netherlands.

The PentaLock team can now finally rejoice that the company will soon become a sensation in the European market. PentaLock is sold to bicycle manufacturers, with whom salespeople at PentaLock have been in contact for the past few years. Now PentaLock has come to the point where they are reaching end customers with their innovative locking system that is integrated into the bike's crank in the production process.

Preventing bike theft

PentaLock has a vision to eradicate bicycle thefts and create a secure environment for cyclists. Bicycles, equipped with the PentaLock smart bike lock, are secured against bike theft, which acts as an electronic immobilizer, connecting the whole electrical system to the lock, and thereby completely disabling the e-bike’s motor, controller, display, etc. once activated.

As the first, ever, the Dutch market, the first to receive bikes with PentaLock will be integrated. This is a partnership with Watt Mobility.

Leaving the bike for more than 30 seconds will result in the lock automatically being activated and locked, and it will automatically unlock once the bike owner has returned. PentaLock works in many ways like the classic car lock, which is why it also comes with a deterrent alarm, letting off a noise up to + 100-decibels, if someone attempts to steal the bike.

Launching in the Netherlands

For the launch, the Dutch market will be the first to receive bikes with PentaLock integrated. This is happening in partnership with Watt Mobility, which has proven to be one of the most innovative bicycle manufacturers in Europe, as Norup comments: “We have been very pleased with our collaboration with Watt Fietsen, and we are very pleased to be able to launch PentaLock in The Netherlands, in cooperation with them.”

Likewise, several Danes have also had the opportunity to pre-order the popular urban e-bike: “We wanted the Danes to also have the opportunity to get a bike with PentaLock as some of the first. We are very happy that it became an opportunity, and we are looking forward seeing them in the Danish streets.”

One of the highlights for PentaLock in 2021 was Eurobike.

Eurobike participation

One of the highlights for PentaLock in 2021 was Eurobike. PentaLock met a huge interest and hopes to reach the same attention this year. Emil Norup comments: "I did not dare to hope for the interest we got. But at this moment now I have really high hopes and there have already begun to come a lot of meeting requests from several bike manufacturers. They can see that we can add much value to their products and would very much like to hear about the possibilities with PentaLock.”

PentaLock will be located at stand E24 in area 9.1 and there is still room to book a meeting.

Scaling up

In May 2022, PentaLock was able to close their third funding round with a number of talented Danish investors: "We started PentaLock with a vision to stop bicycle theft forever, and fortunately there are others who want to join the journey! We are very grateful for that." Emil Norup states.

It also means that PentaLock is ready to scale up. Both in sales, production and not least employees. During the summer of 2022 PentaLock will hire more employees to perform functions within sales, HR and development, respectively.
